Talk:List of P2P protocols
From Protocolinfo
Please move things around if they are in the wrong categories. (Especially the programs that are only available in asian languages. I really can't test these!) Sysop 19:54, 7 Feb 2006 (PST)
[edit] all_p2p
Someone posted this on the article:
- there should be another protocol (maybe) named all_p2p that can match all p2p protocol here. this way, we can more easily setup rule for all p2p protocol.
Please post discussion on the discussion page (here), not on the article.
In response to the comment: I assume you are asking for an l7-filter pattern. I do not think that a pattern called "all_p2p" is a good idea. First of all, it would be difficult to maintain. Second, it's not always clear whether a particular protocol should be included or not. Third, not all protocols are identified with the same efficiency and system administrators should be aware of this. Fourth, not all P2P programs are used in the same way. Administrators should take this into account when setting up their systems. For instance, many P2P protocols may not even be in use on your network, so you don't want to waste processor time looking for them. Fifth, it is easy to write a script that creates the behaviour that you want. Sysop 11:19, 11 Jul 2006 (PDT)
